Almost 200 genetic variations are associated with chronic fatigue syndrome

91 percent of persons with chronic fatigue syndrome who participated in a study had these genetic variations, which is a finding that points to a potential for improved diagnosis and treatment of the condition.

A connection between chronic fatigue syndrome and over two hundred and fifty different genetic variations across 14 genes has been established.

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), also known as myalgic encephalomyelitis, is a condition that may be caused by genetic predispositions, which researchers have identified as possible risk factors (ME).

The Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Exhaustion Syndrome syndrome is poorly understood and is characterised by persistent fatigue and mental fog. It is estimated that approximately 17 million people across the world are affected by it.
