The PC beta for Modern Warfare 2 has already surpassed the number of concurrent players on FIFA 22 and Battlefield 2042.

Yet though Modern Warfare 2 has not even been released yet, the beta test for the game has already amassed approximately 110,000 concurrent gamers on its first day of availability on Steam.

Of course, that only accounts for a small portion of the total player base – the beta is also available for users of the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X – but it's a good indication of the interest the game has, and it illustrates just how many people are eager to give the shooter a try before it is made available to the general public on October 28, 2022.

This indicates that the Modern Warfare 2 beta is currently on top of both the “Trending Games” and the “Popular Releases” charts on SteamDB (opens in new tab), and it also boasts more concurrent players than well-established games like Dead by Daylight and Elden Ring.

It's interesting to note that the game's all-time concurrent player peak of approximately 110,000 players (the official figure is 109,425 players), which is greater than the all-time records achieved for FIFA 22, Resident Evil Village, and Battlefield 2042: Modern Combat. That's not too shabby for a game that hasn't even been released yet, is it?

Have you missed the first beta test and are you curious as to whether or not the hoopla is justified? That's okay. On Thursday, September 22, the countdown clock for the upcoming Modern Warfare 2 beta (opens in new tab) was stopped, and the game's second test was made available to players online.

However, not everyone is able to participate. Players on Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC may only participate in the Modern Warfare 2 beta test if they have previously placed a pre-order for the game. However, the beta test is open to PS5 and PS4 owners, and can be downloaded directly from the PlayStation Store.

However, the beta has not been without its flaws, and users on PC and Xbox are particularly affected by the errors and crashes that are plaguing the Modern Warfare 2 test version at the moment. Check out our article on how to solve crashing and other errors in the Modern Warfare 2 beta (this link will open in a new tab) if you're having difficulty. We are also monitoring whether or not there is an issue with the Modern Warfare 2 servers going down (opens in new tab), so please come back and double-check if you are still experiencing difficulties.

My concentration in Environmental Studies at Middlebury is on the role of film and media in shaping environmental perceptions and values. Both Chinese and Computer Science were electives for me.
